Responsible gambling
Betting has to stay a controlled, budgeted pastime. This page brings together the key markers, the moderation tools and the free support resources available in France.

Five rules that genuinely protect
- Set a budget beforehand, never during. Decide on a monthly amount you could lose entirely without any consequence for your daily life, and treat it as leisure spending already gone.
- Switch your limits on the day you open the account. A limit set calmly protects you; a limit considered after a loss almost always comes too late.
- Never chase a loss. This is the core mechanism of escalation: the stake goes up, judgement degrades, the loss gets worse.
- Never bet with borrowed money. Not an overdraft, not a consumer loan, not money lent by someone close to you.
- Keep time under control. Set a session length, switch on the reminders the operator offers and take real breaks.
Warning signs not to ignore
- Repeatedly staking more than you had planned.
- Thinking about your bets during work, meals or as you fall asleep.
- Hiding your activity, your losses or your statements from those around you.
- Borrowing, selling or dipping into savings in order to carry on.
- Feeling irritable or anxious when you try to stop.
- Noticing an impact on sleep, work or close relationships.
A single signal is already reason enough to talk about it. The anonymous self-assessment offered by EvalouJeu takes five minutes and requires no registration.
The mandatory moderation tools
Every ANJ-licensed operator must make the following available to you, free of charge and with no justification required:
| Tool | Effect |
|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Caps the amounts paid in over a given period. A reduction applies immediately; an increase is deferred. |
| Stake limit | Caps the amount staked, independently of the balance available. |
| Time limit | Warns you or logs you out after a session length you set. |
| Temporary break | Suspends account access from 24 hours to several weeks. |
| Operator self-exclusion | Closes access with that operator for a set period. |
| Gambling ban (ANJ) | A national three-year measure applying to every licensed operator, irrevocable before it expires. |
Requesting a gambling ban
A voluntary ban is the most protective measure available. It is requested directly from the Autorité Nationale des Jeux, applies to every operator licensed in France, lasts three years and cannot be lifted before it expires. The process is free and confidential: go to anj.fr, player protection section.
Protecting minors
Sports betting is strictly prohibited for anyone under 18. If a minor shares your device, parental control options exist: Internet Matters, along with filtering software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio, can block access to adult-only content.
